Kids Count: Child poverty on the rise in 38 states
(Posted: Aug 18, 2011 10:51 AM Updated: Aug 18, 2011 1:59 PM By Kimberly Schupp ) - According to a new survey by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and KIDS COUNT Data Book, child poverty in the U.S. has increased in 38 states in the last decade. The survey ranked U.S. states according to 10 indicators, including rates of child abuse, teen births, children in single parent homes and unemployment in the household. The survey then ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia, naming them the best and worst states for children to live in.

Imagine the Possibilities

"Imagine the Possibilities" help put a book in every Meriwether County child's hand! For a small donation, a child will receive 1 new book per month for a full year. Imagine starting Kindergarten having been read to regularly by the most important teacher they will ever have - their parents.

Parents Get Involved in an Anti-Bullying Initiative

As bullying and school violence get more and more attention, California 's Santa Clara County is taking steps to educate its students in bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and positive values. ABC Parents, a program run by Project Cornerstone, uses children's books to build Developmental Assets in local students.

New service for parents seeking child care in – 877-ALL-GA-KIDS (877-255-4254). Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and Quality Care for Children have partnered to create ’s source for finding quality child care. We would love for each new parent to receive our informational postcard telling of our free service.
  
Opportunity for Small Business Owners

This is an opportunity in which your business may want to participate. Under the Governor's Office of Workforce Development; your company is eligible to receive $250 for each certified Work Ready individual you hire up to $1250. This is a great incentive for your business. There is a an application (very brief) that must be completed - can easily be done on line. After approval, you must participate in a mandatory information session that is conducted via conference call. This is certainly an incentive you'll want to consider if you are planning to hire new employees any time soon.
